end-of-week

Saturday August 25, 2007

Before we begin, let me make this absolutely clear. Bacci Pizzaria closes at four on Saturdays. Any trip made there after such time is made in futility.

And with that said, welcome back.

I feel like I should follow that with something fantastic, but I don’t have much. Except that the campus is starting to feel comfortable, which usually doesn’t happen for a good two weeks. It’s a nice surprise. I’ve got a job, which is good. Global Grounds Café, allegedly the only student-run service on campus. I would contest that with the argument that alumni don’t really count, but vatevah. It’s a job, and I like coffee. And the people who work there. Which works out.

Whoever ran the scheduling managed to get in more than ten hours each for all initiates (like… nine of them/us). I assume that makes everyone else’s schedule as convoluted as mine – calc II, tech comm, adv intro to programming (yes, there is an advanced intro) and intro to the profession, with coffee-hours dribbled in here and there.

Intro to the profession hasn’t happened yet, now that you mention it. Twas scheduled for friday, but apparently was canceled last time (no, I didn’t get the email, thank you) to make room for TGiitF.

Thank God IIT’s Friday (HA! PUN! …) seems to be Student Affair’s way of instilling incoming first-year students with ambition and inspiration. And a yearning desire to find the leader in all of us. *cough

That aside, though. The Pizzaria. They reportedly sell huge pieces of pizza with free sodas for a minimum, and it was my goal to be there for dinner this afternoon.

As long as we were set about accomplishing this, Max and I stopped at Target (concluded that all you really need in life is tweezers, coffee, sticky-tac and the internet), grabbed coffee at Starbucks (doesn’t count for the Coffee Tour, I know; more about that later), were forced to throw away the Starbucks (no food/drink, say the security guards) and were rejected for library patronage (no proof of in-state residence) at the Chicago Public Library before arriving at Bacci’s and finding it closed.

Though hear this: I have photo evidence that we did indeed make it there. Ha.

afterthought
More photos to photog. Today’s issue includes a subway musician and an alternative view of civilization.

addendum
While investigating a route to the-pizza-place-that-shall-not-be-named, I found this bit of satellite imagery in Google Maps’s view of Chicago. I think this proves something fundamental about the nature of the universe. Though I’m not sure what.
