Hello again.

Saturday October 20, 2007

First off, there are a couple changes around the site. … Okay, the site was rewritten. Completely. The only thing that wasn’t redone is the comments handler, and that only because it doesn’t exist just now. (upd – comments now in place as of 3:23am.)

Notes on what exactly was done (because… I do that):

layout
Kept the three columns, stripped out everything that wasn’t mission-critical. Colors, extra content. Out. Images associated with anything are placed to be the focus of the entire page – only thing that competes with them is the signature. Which is fine.

interface
Ajaxy. Partly because it adds interest to the visuals, partly because it’s just fun to play with. Script.aculo.us. Woot.

There’s no search, and there’s no archive. The lack of an archive is intentional – I set this up to focus on the current situation, if you will. The search box will likely be added in a bit. Along with comments. Maybe.

Now… yeah. It’s very, very bare. Heh, in my defense, the code that went into that is really quite complicated. Especially the content menu over on the right there. :/

Anyway. All of this works in all the decent browsers as far as I can tell, though Internet Explorer does some odd things with anti-aliasing when opacity is messed with. Moral of the story: use Firefox.

Pffff.

in other news…
Winston … oh. Interrupted thought. I’m catching up on Bionic Woman (which really isn’t that terrible, despite the inherent cliché), and Sara Sarah Corvis Corvus (apparently I can’t spell) just made an expression that Torie definitely could have pulled off. Heh.

But yeah, met up with Winston and Aunt Beth Friday afternoon. Dinner at… somewhere Mexican. Metra/CTA back to campus. Hot Fuzz, Portal. Sleep at 4am.

There’s a Star Wars exhibit running at the Museum of Science and Industry. Allegedly excellent, nationally presented by Bose. But should you ever decide to go there, make sure that your tickets are procured in advance, e.g. before they sell out. Or you will spend a moderate amount of time in transit for absolutely no purpose, except to see a bold, 36pt Times New Roman notice that (we’re sorry) all tickets have been sold.

Heh. Yeah, that was our situation. All in all not a bad thing. Gave us time to wander a bit of the loop, see what’s to see at Millennium Park. Spent 20usd on coffee (hooray gift cards).

It’s 11:16. Hungry, tired, slightly dazed. I don’t want to sleep. Or no, I don’t want to sit in the dark, waiting for sleep to appear. Do you get that? I think everyone does.
