a brief rambling in d minor

Thursday December 20, 2007

I really… just want to go find an old, empty warehouse with a wide, open interior. The kind with a ceiling 200 feet up and nothing between concrete and the wooden rafters. Broad windows, panes of glass in squares where they haven’t fallen out.

One of those. And stand in the middle with your eyes closed, away from everything in an open empty.

Right, existentialistic moment over. Suffice it to say that it’s Wednesday Thursday (presence of mind: zero), and I’m not really looking forward to the rest of Christmas. I’d go back to Chicago, but I do have some remnant of my nuclear family left here. And various holiday-related duties to attend to. Shopping, for example, which should probably happen before the 25th.

Friends are going to start showing up in town… tomorrowish. And this weekend. A good lot of them are looking forward to coming home, but this is the first year that I’ve noticed how much the holidays themselves are not looked forward to. … Or not the holidays, I guess, but the large amount of inconvenience and small amount of positive… something. Whatever. They’re not all as shinywonder as they were when you were five, which makes sense and is to be expected.

… I’m hesitating here. Not totally sure whether to go all emo and agonize generally about life in general, or to say something respectable and surprisingly thoughtful about the world at large, and x in particular. It amuses me – enough people read this in a personal context that I can’t just use it as a mind-dump, and enough people come here for practical purposes (e.g. Textpattern stuff, Zune stuff, design stuff) that more than just personal stuff should be written. This stopped being strictly a personal site at some point, which is odd.

Am at work (surprise), trying to figure out how to use this reporting app. The degree of its un-user-friendly-ness can only be a result of special effort.

Like the DMV, which apparently has no phone. I was told this by the highway department. Apparently our local government tends toward the inaccessible as well. /me muses

The car gets its headlights fixed/replaced tomorrow. That’ll afford a bit more flexibility. Apparently you need those to drive after dark.

put me to sleep, evil angel
