Germanyguberstagsomething, day one (or: I don't speak German)

Wednesday May 21, 2008

I am here. This is day one. Assuming one includes yesterday, which probably isn’t fair. But I had a photo for day one (as pictured), and skipping to day two would have been bad form.

United 7200, from Wausau to Chicago. No problems. A woman named Suzanne was horribly late for United 940, from Chicago to Frankfurt. I think we eventually left without her, roughly an hour off schedule. This meant that we were also late arriving in Frankfurt, which was probably why they dumped us on the tarmac and sent us up four flights of service stairs, rather than bothering with the whole boarding platform thing.

Suzanne knew not what she had done, but the pilot on Lufthansa 178 (Berlin-bound) seemed a little annoyed with the deluge of late American passengers. That said, Lufthansa is such a better airline…

Actually, European stuff as a whole seems to be better (read: more practical) than American.. stuff. Down to the way their doorframes and dumpsters are made. (Which, by the way, should be a band – Doorframes and Dumpsters. Knocks Angels and Airwaves out of the water.)

More later, perhaps. I’m not dealing with the time change terribly well (slept until 4pm today), but apparently it takes a week to get that under control.

That said, I’m going to bed. And thank heaven for the internet.
